Princeton has been in the midst of a wide-scale planning project to map out the next 10 years of growth for the campus and its place within the surrounding community. The vision for the plan is guided by the following five principles: to maintain a pedestrian-oriented campus, to preserve the park-like character of the campus, to maintain campus neighborhoods while promoting a sense of community, to develop in an environmentally responsible manner, and to sustain strong community relations.
The planning effort, led by the award-winning firm of Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & Planners LLP includes seven other planning and design firms. The group is examing strategies in architecture, landscape, pedestrian circulation, and other areas.
Alumni, friends, and local community members can find out more about proposed building, renovation, transportation, and landscaping projects around campus on the Campus Plan Web site.
The site is organized around two main sections: Themes and Neighborhoods. The Themes section includes analysis and options for six overarching issues: Transportation, Parking and Shuttles, Wayfinding, Landscape, Sustainability, Housing, and Campus Life. The Neighborhoods section displays plans for different areas of campus delineated by common academic interest or activity: core campus, creative and performing arts, natural sciences, engineering, Ivy Lane/Western Way, and athletics.
Additional information will continue to be posted on the site as the plan progresses, and feedback from alumni, friends, and the community is welcomed.
