On Nov. 3, more than 140 young alumni volunteers returned to Princeton for Annual Giving (AG) BootCamp, where recent grads (from the classes of 2009 to 2018) call, text, and Snapchat their classmates to ask them to make a gift to Annual Giving. The one-day event helps alumni hone their volunteer peer-to-peer fundraising skills and gives them an opportunity to give back to the University.

A gift from University Trustee Anthony H. P. Lee and his wife Sharon will strengthen Princeton’s mission of teaching and research by endowing a professorship in math, funding education and training related to high-speed computing, and creating a new scholarship.
Before Charlie Baker ’17 takes the stage as the host of Princeton’s monthly late-night talk show, he frantically runs through his lines, herds the theater’s previous audience out so his crew can set up, and fixes malfunctioning equipment. And he worries. But as the lights come up, he trots onstage to greet his audience, leaving the nerves and chaos behind.
Sophomore Naoum Fares Marayati—who came to the University on a scholarship--is taking in as much of his Princeton experience as he can. When Marayati is not studying for his next class, you may find him guiding a tour in the Princeton University Art Museum, tutoring at the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning, singing with the Umqombothi a cappella group or hosting a study break at Forbes College, his favorite community on campus.
Princeton’s financial aid program is one of the most generous in the country. Approximately 3,100 undergraduates—roughly 60 percent of the student body—receive financial aid assistance, thanks in large part to scholarships created by alumni, parents, and friends. These scholarships are at the heart of the University’s need-blind admission and “no-loan” policies. Need-blind admission means that Princeton students learn with—and from—peers of different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
For more than 100 years Princeton’s Graduate School has attracted the world’s most promising young scholars. They work in labs, in libraries, in the field, and in classrooms, infusing the campus with fresh ideas and helping to drive discovery. These graduate students collaborate with the University’s faculty members, produce original scholarship, and teach and mentor undergraduates, in preparation for leadership roles in academia, industry, and government.
Matthew Kritz dreamed of coming to Princeton. He worked hard, got accepted, but worried that the expense might derail his dream. The University’s generous scholarship donors eliminated that concern. He is among the roughly 60 percent of undergraduates who are Princetonians thanks to financial aid, which is funded primarily by scholarship gifts.
An unusual letter arrived on campus recently from the mother of a freshman: “I need to give back in some way,” wrote Kuntal Parikh, whose son, Agastya, receives scholarship support. “I do not have financial resources to contribute, but am more than willing to do anything else…absolutely anything, from filling envelopes to filing to making calls to making endless cups of Indian chai lattes or dinners or anything else that you can think of.”
